About This Course

This course gives mechatronics technicians the practical skills to measure, control, and calibrate the instruments that run a modern process plant. Trainees learn how a closed control loop works, how field signals are carried on the industrial 4-20 mA standard, and how pressure, temperature, level, and flow are sensed and transmitted. They then master the heart of the trade — calibration — performing zero, span, and linearity adjustments, five-point as-found/as-left tests, and smart HART transmitter trims using process calibrators.

Delivered over a focused 40-hour week, the programme balances theory with bench and field exercises on transmitters, calibrators, controllers, and control valves. Work is grounded in the ISA-5.1 instrumentation symbols and P&ID conventions and in sound metrological practice (traceability, tolerance, documentation). Graduates leave able to wire and check a loop, calibrate the main instrument families, tune a PID controller, and stroke and document a control valve, ready for real instrumentation and control roles in industry.

Requirements

  • Completion of relevant lower-level electrical, electronics, or mechatronics courses, or equivalent technical experience.
  • Basic understanding of electrical circuits, Ohm's law, sensors, and workshop safety.
  • Familiarity with using a digital multimeter and basic hand tools.
  • Access to a process calibrator or loop calibrator (e.g. Fluke 754/789), sample transmitters, and a control valve or simulator for the practical exercises.
