About This Course

This advanced course builds directly on a working knowledge of PLC fundamentals and ladder logic, equipping mechatronics technicians to engineer complete, networked control solutions. Trainees move from simple discrete control into continuous (analog) process control, learning to read and scale 4-20 mA and 0-10 V signals, drive final control elements such as control valves, and configure and tune Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) loops for temperature, pressure, flow, and level. The programme then deepens programming skill with the textual and graphical languages of IEC 61131-3 – Structured Text and Function Block Diagram – together with structured data handling using tags, data types, and data blocks.

Delivered over a focused 40-hour, one-week timeframe, the course pairs theory with extensive hands-on configuration, programming, networking, and commissioning exercises using industry tools such as Siemens TIA Portal and Allen-Bradley Studio 5000. Trainees connect PLCs to field devices and operator stations using Modbus, PROFIBUS/PROFINET, and EtherNet/IP, design effective HMI and SCADA screens, and apply a systematic, safety-first approach to diagnostics and fault-finding. The aim is to produce a technician who can specify, program, integrate, commission, and maintain a modern, networked PLC-controlled process to industry standards.
