About This Course

Industrial Pneumatics equips the mechatronics technician to build, operate and maintain the compressed-air systems that drive Nigeria’s manufacturing, bottling, packaging and process industries. The course follows the air from its source to the point of work: how compressors generate it, how dryers and FRL units clean and condition it, how cylinders turn it into motion, and how directional, flow and logic valves control that motion to a precise sequence.

Taught video-first with in-class practice on the training panel and structured assessments, the course moves from compressed-air fundamentals and safety, through actuators and directional control valves, into ISO 1219-1 circuit design, speed control and multi-cylinder sequencing, and finishes with maintenance, leak detection and systematic troubleshooting. By the end, a graduate can read and draw a pneumatic schematic, construct and tune a working circuit, and diagnose and repair faults to an industrial standard.

Requirements

  • None compulsory, though this Level 3 course assumes basic workshop safety and hand-tool competence.
  • Familiarity with the gas laws and basic physics of pressure and force is helpful (covered in Level 1 Physics).
  • Access to a pneumatic training panel (e.g. Festo Didactic or Amatrol) with a compressor, FRL unit, cylinders and 3/2 and 5/2 valves.
  • A circuit-simulation package such as Festo FluidSIM for the design and simulation classwork.
