Electrical Maintenance and Troubleshooting

What Will You Learn?

• Work safely on electrical systems using lockout-tagout, PPE and prove-dead procedures.
• Select and correctly use a multimeter, clamp meter and insulation tester (megger).
• Read electrical schematics, ladder and connection diagrams to plan maintenance and fault-finding.
• Inspect, maintain and repair wiring, terminations, cables and distribution boards.
• Test and interpret insulation resistance and earthing/continuity readings.
• Diagnose and clear open-circuit, short-circuit, earth-leakage and loose-connection faults.
• Apply a systematic five-step troubleshooting method to find the root cause of equipment faults.
• Carry out preventive-maintenance routines and keep accurate maintenance records.

Requirements

• Level 1 fundamentals of electricity (voltage, current, resistance, Ohm's law) or equivalent.
• Ability to follow workshop safety rules, including lockout-tagout and PPE use.
• Basic numeracy for simple current, resistance and insulation calculations.
