About This Course
This course introduces the principles and practice of Building Management Systems (BMS), also called Building Automation Systems (BAS), the computer-based control systems that monitor and manage a building’s mechanical, electrical, and electromechanical services. Trainees learn the three-level BMS architecture (field, automation, and management levels), the role of sensors, actuators, and direct digital controllers (DDCs), and how open protocols such as BACnet and Modbus tie everything together. The programme is grounded in how BMS is really deployed in commercial buildings and is aligned with ASHRAE BACnet (ANSI/ASHRAE 135) practice.
Delivered over a focused 40-hour, one-week timeframe, the course balances theory with hands-on observation and configuration exercises on HVAC plant (air handling units, chillers, VAV boxes), lighting control, energy metering, and the integration of fire-alarm and access-control systems. The aim is to equip mechatronics technicians who already have a grounding in electrical and control fundamentals with the practical skills to read BMS points lists, wire and commission field devices, interpret control strategies, and operate a building’s automation system safely and efficiently for comfort, energy savings, and reliability.
