About This Course
This course explains how rotary power produced by a motor or engine is carried, multiplied and controlled on its way to a machine. It builds from the core ideas of torque, rotational speed, power and mechanical advantage to the three families of drive – belt, chain and gear – and finally to the connecting and control elements (couplings, bearings, clutches and brakes) that make a complete drive train work. The emphasis throughout is on practical competence: reading a drive, calculating its ratio, selecting the right components, and installing and tensioning them correctly.
Delivered over an intensive two-week (80 hour) schedule, the course pairs real teaching videos with in-class classwork, a practical assignment per module, and module and final assessments. On completion the mechatronics technician should be able to analyse a power-transmission system, calculate speed and torque through belt, chain and gear stages, select and install drive components to specification, and apply couplings, bearings, clutches and brakes safely in an industrial setting.
