About This Course

A complete Level 1 grounding in the mathematics every technician uses: numbers and algebra, probability and statistics, geometry and trigonometry, forces and commercial mathematics, and an introduction to calculus. Each lesson pairs a video class with a comprehensive written chapter, worked examples and classwork, and ends with its own test – fifty questions drawn at random from a large bank, which you can retake until you pass.

What Will You Learn?

Course Content

Module 1 · 6 hours to complete

Numbers & Algebra

Build the algebraic foundation every technician relies on — number bases and numeration, sets, functions and binary operations, indices and logarithms, surds and polynomials, inequalities, and the full range of linear, quadratic and simultaneous equations, through to sequences, series and the binomial theorem. These are the manipulation skills you will use to set up and solve problems in every later topic and on the job.

What's included
13 Videos 13 Readings 13 Graded Tests
Module 2 · 3 hours to complete

Probability & Statistics

Collect, organise and interpret data the way industry expects. This module covers permutation and combination, the laws of probability and logic, the binomial distribution, ungrouped and grouped statistics, correlation and regression, and the normal distribution — equipping you to summarise measurements, quantify chance and read the data that drives technical decisions.

What's included
7 Videos 7 Readings 7 Graded Tests
Module 3 · 3 hours to complete

Geometry & Trigonometry

Solve the geometry of real structures and layouts. You will handle plane geometry from triangles to polygons, geometric constructions, bearings and distances, angles of elevation and depression, the sine and cosine rules, trigonometric identities, coordinate geometry and vectors — the tools for measuring angles, distances and directions accurately in workshop and field work.

What's included
9 Videos 9 Readings 9 Graded Tests
Module 4 · 3 hours to complete

Forces, Matrices & Commercial Mathematics

Apply mathematics to forces, systems and money. This module combines the composition, resolution and equilibrium of forces and the mechanics of motion, collision and projectiles with matrices for handling systems of equations, and commercial mathematics — ratio, interest and everyday financial calculation — that every self-reliant technician needs.

7 Videos 7 Readings 7 Graded Tests
Module 5 · 3 hours to complete

Calculus & Applications

Take the step into calculus and its technical uses. Starting from limits and undefined expressions, you will learn differentiation and its application to rates and motion, then integration — from first principles and partial fractions to areas under curves, volumes and the trapezium rule — and apply these to kinematics and real engineering problems.
