An intensive, video-primary Level 2 course that teaches mechatronics technicians how computers, software, networks, office tools, and AI are used for effective communication in technical workplaces.
About This Course
Computer Aided Communication provides Institute for Industrial Technology students with the practical, hands-on skills needed to use computers for communication in technical contexts. Over 80 intensive hours across two weeks, learners explore how computers facilitate communication through hardware, software, and networks, beginning with general computer knowledge, the BIOS and boot process, and common hardware faults and repairs.
The course then moves through Windows operation and the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), the World Wide Web and its communication protocols, internet security basics, programming languages and their uses, email systems, and modern AI tools for communication. Every module ties theory to real workplace tasks so that technicians can troubleshoot hardware, operate software tools confidently, apply security practices, and leverage AI to communicate clearly and professionally.
Course Content
Computer Basics and Hardware
Get to grips with the machine itself. This module covers computer components and working principles, the BIOS and its role in start-up, and the common hardware faults you will diagnose and repair — including the network cards and peripherals that make communication possible.
Windows Operation and Office Tools
Work confidently in Windows and the Office suite. You will navigate the operating system and its system applications, then create documents in Word, organise data with Excel formulas and charts, and build presentations in PowerPoint — combining all three for professional, multimedia communication.
Web, Security, and Programming Basics
Understand the technologies that connect us. This module explains the World Wide Web and its protocols (HTTP, HTTPS, TCP/IP), the basics of internet security and common threats, an introduction to programming languages, and professional email use with etiquette and attachments.
AI and Integrated Applications
Bring it all together with modern tools. You will use AI applications such as Grammarly and translation tools to enhance communication, discuss ethical AI use, and combine hardware, software, web and AI in an integrated project — troubleshooting across the whole stack.
