About This Course
This course offers a theoretical foundation in entrepreneurship, exploring economic principles, Nigerian business structures, legal frameworks, financial management and strategic planning. It covers leadership ethics, project oversight, business development and closure processes, with practical elements such as case studies and a business-inclined movie analysis. The 80-hour, two-week training (70% theory, 30% practical) is followed by a one-month period in which trainees launch and manage a small business based on their plan, liquidating it thereafter.
The aim is to equip trainees who have no prior knowledge with a strong theoretical understanding of entrepreneurial principles, enabling them to develop a business plan, then launch, manage and ultimately liquidate a small business within the structured programme. By the end, every trainee should be able to explain core economic and business concepts, navigate Nigerian legal and financial requirements, and steer a venture from idea through to orderly closure.
Course Content
Economic Foundations and Business Structures
Start with the economics of doing business. This module explains supply, demand, profit and market dynamics, the Nigerian business structures such as sole proprietorship and limited company, and the legal frameworks — CAC registration, contract and tort basics — behind a startup.
Business Planning and Strategy
Turn an idea into a strategy. You will explore strategic intent and product development, develop a basic business idea, analyse a strategy case study, and draft a strategic outline for your own venture.
Leadership and Skills
Lead yourself and others well. This module identifies the skills and virtuous leadership traits — creativity and integrity — that entrepreneurs need, has you assess your own skills, and examines leadership in real business contexts.
Financial Management and Taxation
Handle the money side with confidence. You will define accounting terms and cost principles, calculate income tax using Nigerian PAYE rates, practise basic bookkeeping, and explore sources of finance and financing decisions.
Profitability and Analysis
Make the business make money. This module covers profitability strategies such as cost control and pricing, and SWOT analysis — analysing a profitability case and conducting a SWOT for your own business idea.
Project Oversight and Communication
Run projects and communicate results. You will outline project-management basics — planning and execution — discuss reporting techniques and communication skills, analyse a project case, and draft a basic report.
Business Planning and Insights
Assemble the full business plan. This module has you integrate SWOT, product and financial data into a plan, draw insights from a business-focused film, and draft your complete business plan.
Equity, Finance, and Closure
Understand ownership and closing a business. You will explain financing decisions, equity — shares and structure — and the liquidation process, analysing a financial case and outlining how a business is wound down.
Business Launch Preparation
Get ready to actually launch. This module details startup and liquidation procedures, reviews the components of your business plan, and prepares you to run and later liquidate a small business, submitting your plan for approval.
Assessment and Review
Review, submit and consolidate. This final module reviews the key entrepreneurial concepts, has you submit your final business plan, and completes the assessment before you launch and manage a real small business.
